Mr David Cairns is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Aberdeen, since appointment in 2008. Highly regarded as a leading orthopedic shoulder specialist, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and trained in Orthopaedic surgery on the West of Scotland Orthopaedic rotation.
He was awarded a Fellowship at Perth Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre, Western Australia in 2007.
Mr Cairns is an NHS Consultant at both Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend hospitals in Aberdeen. He is an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. In 2017 he was appointed as an examiner for the Fellowship examination in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery (FRCS Tr&Orth). He is also the Training Programme Director for the North of Scotland Orthopaedic Rotation.
As an established orthopedic shoulder specialist, he specialises in upper limb sports injuries and offers a variety of treatments, including arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repair, instability surgery and joint replacement. He also performs elbow and hand surgery with a specialist interest in elbow tendinopathy (tennis and golfer's elbow).
