Professional Profile
Mr Scott Barker is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all aspects of Shoulder and Elbow surgery. He also has a keen interest in Robotic assisted Joint Replacements, performing the first MAKO Hip and Knee Replacements for NHS Grampian in 2021.
After completing his medical degree at Aberdeen University in 2001, he undertook comprehensive Orthopaedic specialist training on the North of Scotland rotation, passing his FRCS exam in 2012. He further honed his expertise through specialist fellowships in Australia at the Ballarat Orthopaedic Centre and the prestigious Melbourne Shoulder and Elbow Centre.
He has been an NHS Grampian Consultant since 2014 and started private practice at Albyn Hospital in 2016. As well as his clinical duties, Mr Barker is at the forefront for research and training in Aberdeen. He was the North of Scotland Trainer of the Year in 2025 and is the local Principal Research Investigator for multi-centre UK studies looking at the treatment of shoulder and elbow fractures. He has published numerous research papers and presented his work at national and international meetings.
Mr Barker offers a patient-centred approach to provide a diagnosis and management plan. This includes non-operative treatment (injections / physiotherapy) as well as surgical intervention.
